- Don't be afraid to say "No!"
- But seek a deal that is fair to both sides
- Use surprise if necessary, but infrequently
- Be willing to compromise
- But be clear on what you are willing to "Give away"
- Be prepared to change strategies and tactics
- Permit your opponent to "Save face"
- Allowing both sides to claim a win
- Obtain written agreement at the end of each session
